I had a herniated disk in 2007. the tear was slight but it is lower back. I've had 2 spinal epidurals and physical therapy.

This was in 2008. The pain is coming back badly. Especially with bowel movements and bike riding. I was on stool softeners and was hospitalized for dehydration because it hurt so bad.

I have faxed my MRI and made an appointemnt to the pain clinic. My previous doctor who did the spinal epidurals is not willing to provide Hydro as before without another epidural.

The epidurals really did not help and were super expensive.

Do you think with an MRI from 07 showing a tear in my disk will help me get back on opoid therapy?

I was taking like 14 tylenol and had to get a biopsy because of the acetemenophin.

my boyfriend also has terrible back problems. he was bed ridden for three years from the age of 15-18 yrs and doped up on pain meds during that time. he doesn't take anything anymore. i also would like to know what could be done in a situation like this, but to avoid getting on heavy pain medication. he doesn't wanna go in that direction and neither do i. so if anyone has any other experience in pain clinics managing pain in different ways, i'd like to know...

What is protocol at pain clinics? Any help would be appreciated. Not sure what to expect.

I had to provide all records from any tests and treatment for my back injury
MRI's etc
I also had to have a referral from my primary care doctor
Once there i was given a in depth exam and sent for more tests and I had a meeting with him after my tests and stuff came back

I found it best cause i have a lot of short term memory issues and the appointments can be somewhat well rushed at times to write down questions and points i wantto discuss on a notebook.

OH and I also now keep a pain diary and share with them when i go in
You can download a pain diary here

They even have application for one for Iphone if you have a Iphone

The following links were helpful for me too in knowing what to and how to discuss things with the doctor.

Hope this helps
